Where I stayed

Tomorrow is a big day.  I will start my Baseball Park Adventure.  Plan for now is to leave Bloomington about 8:00 am, and travel the roughly 250 miles to Cincinnati tomorrow.  Should be there be early afternoon (even after losing an hour), and make my way to Skyline Chili in Cincinnati.  If you've never had it, think of Steak & Shake's Chili 5 ways...awesome!  Then to a game between Cincinnati and Milwaukee at 7:05 pm.  Gametime temperature is suppose to be 53 degrees.  I have packed my long underwear, winter jacket and gloves just in case!

After the game I am planning on driving the 100 miles to Columbus, Ohio where I plan to stay with my old friend and ISU associate, Henry Lee.  Looking forward to seeing him.  Henry's is a heartwarming story.  He left ISU in the early 80's to become the Associate Registrar at Ohio State University.  He and his lovely bride, Lily had three great kids (Ga-Fay, Ga-Ming, Ga-Yee).  When the kids were very young, all under 5 years of age as I recall, Lily died of breast cancer, and Henry raised those three kids by himself.  They all went to OSU and graduated at least with BS Degrees and a couple have Masters.  Henry did a masterful job of raising them.

Two Henry Lee stories...when working in Admissions at ISU, you always wanted to go have a beer with Henry after work...he always bummed cigarettes (I think because Lily didn't approve of his smoking), but you didn't have to buy a pitcher of beer all night long.  Type of guy he is and was.  One of the best friends a person could have.  He'd call about 4:25 and say in that broken Chinese/English of his, "You thisty???" (Pronounced with no "r.")   And we'd go have beer or two at Shanigans or Pub II.  Second story:  Several couples who worked with Henry went out to eat with him at the old Tien Tsin Chinese restaurant (when it was located at what is now a State Farm parking lot off Four Seasons Road).  And we asked Henry to order for us, fully expecting to hear some awesome Chinese words roll off his tongue.  What we got was "A number 14, a number 32 and a number 36."  We laughed at that a great deal, and I still laugh when I tell that story.

I don't have a ticket to the game tomorrow night.  Hopefully that won't be a problem.  Plans are to go to the ticket window and ask for a single seat.  If not, plan B is to scalp one.  I really wanted to start in Cincinnati because that's where the modern day National League started in the 1870's.  I thought it would be nice to go on opening day.  Looked on line for a ticket for opening day (which was yesterday), the cheapest ticket was $116...and tomorrow, that same ticket is $6!!!

Looking forward to the start of my adventure a kid on Christmas Eve!  More tomorrow.
