Today, Christmas Day, we slept in...as best Sandy can do. She and Laura got up at 9:00 for breakfast...I slept longer! Laura came back to bed and she and I got up at 11:30 after some nagging from Mom.

We decided to spend the day in the Old City. We headed to a local restaurant Laura knew in the Armenian section. Very good food that I couldn't pronounce!

Laura took a quick cab back to Tabur to retrieve our camera....it had been locked up in a safe the night before because the honest people who could read the tickets knew not to bring their cameras...but don't get me started!

Sandy and I made our way back to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre (the place of Jesus death, crucifixion, burial and resurrection). Laura caught up with us and we walked the Via Dolorosa - Latin for "Way of Grief or Way of Suffering." This is also called the 14 stations of the cross. We found the first one with the help of a local guy who wanted to charge us $60 to walk us along to all 14 stations...we refused, but I did tip him as he showed us the location of the first station which is inside a Muslim school, and we could only get in because the children were out of school. We made our way along all 14 stations, including the last 5 which occur inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Every Friday, priests walk the Via Dolorosa with people following behind, some carrying wooden crosses. Lots of shops and tons of people along the way.

We went through the Church of the Holy Sepulchre again...just as moving as the other night.

Girls shopped and I sat and had a Coke and a bottle of water.

We then tried to make it to "The Garden Tomb." It's another place some people believe Jesus was crucified and buried...no one knows for sure. It was getting late. We got a cab and made it to the tomb at 5:10 PM...I knew it closed and 5:30 and despite a sign saying they would close 10 minutes before 5:30, they were already closed. Sorry we missed it, but Laura is going back when she returns in January to get me pictures.

We returned to the hotel and I wrote yesterday's "missive." Sorry that was so long.

Called home and my Mom to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and to make sure Bryan hadn't burned the house down!!!

We ate at a local "soup restaurant." I thought it was so-so...but Laura liked it.

Back to the hotel to write today's note. Sandy and I agree Jerusalem was the best city so far. Very vibrant, clean, safe, bustling...just a great city!

Tomorrow we leave for Jordan...looking foreword to it! All the best and Merry Christmas again!!!

I would like to know how on earth you manage to remember so much detail a full day later. Great job and great memory! If I didn't write all that down the same day you would get two short paragraphs at most.
