You'll be pleased - hopefully - to know that I haven't had my ass capped in a drive-by or been bored to death by the Presidential campaign race (although my waiting for Bush to to make an idiot of himself once more on the news has piqued my interest a bit), it's just that I've been up and down the east coast of the US staying with friends and spending all the money I've saved on accommodation and internet access on beer instead.
Here's briefly where I've been:
After Alaska a quick stop at my friend Amy's for a slap-up steak in New York before catching the train to Gordon and Di's new house in northern north Maryland (i.e. almost Delaware) where I nearly went crabbing with his dad but the water was too rough. From there it was Wedding #3 in Frederick for Dave and Ariana, and then Baltimore to stay with my goddaughter, Gillian. Next up was Annapolis, then Clinton, then Arlington Virginia, then DC, followed by a sprint through the airport to literally bang on the plane door to let me on board to fly to stay with my friend Bridget in Atlanta, from where I drove to Birmingham Alabama (beer and grits), then Savannah Georgia (ghosts and grits) to Jacksonville Beach in Florida (wine and no grits) for Wedding #4 (and Lynda's wedding #3), back to Atlanta, then a much more relaxed flight to DC, back up to Baltimore, northern north Maryland, baseball game in Baltimore, the Governor's Cup boat race at St Mary's, the Baltimore Zoo with Gillian and her brother, and finally the train back to DC, which is where I am now - I think.
On Friday I begin the unexpected leg of my adventure through Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina: back to noisy Japanese roommates in grotty hostels, interminable bus journeys, dodgy food, and getting ripped off by every smiling local. And let's not forget the probability of altitude sickness. Good god.
