Well, what do you want me to say? If any of you have ever been here then you'll know that this place is stunningly beautiful. Can you imagine a more picturesque place??
The town of Bled is very small, about 5,000 people or so, and the campsite is on the opposite side of a large lake that has a castle brooding on a hill on the Northern fringe and a church on a lone island - allegedly the only island in Slovenia that stands immaculately in white, resplendent in the sun.
The place is so calm and tranqil that we spent 3 days here doing very little apart from taking a couple of walks around the lake, which takes about 90 minutes or so at a leisurely pace - maybe you could add 2 hours onto that if you lead your girlfriend up the wrong ,long, steep path to the top of a big hill that you never intended to visit in the first place, but the views from the top were sensational!!
Most people just seem to laze in the sun and take it easy, including lots of Brits, many of them well into their 60s. Included in this group would be a group of Scottish men who appeared to be enjoying the views of the swimming pool "Did ya see that bird in the bikini? Aye.... cracking pair!".
We have now spent 5 consecutive nights in a tent, which is fine, but compact. The Orange Palace is holding up well, and the campsite is beautiful, set in a deep valley surrounded by pine forests. The only downside was emerging from the tent to see a 50+ German couple emerge naked from their tent after a heavy workout. Not what I had anticipated from our trip.
And on that note, We're off.

It was the best of times it was the wurst of times
Good work DB - pleased that the tent is holding up but I don't want to find any excreta of any kind in it on your return.
Thanks for the Zwack poster which will soon be mounted on the stairs (but enough of my fetishes)

I'm not promising anything about the tent......
Saw the Oktoberfest live on TV t'other day.... inside the Paulaner Tent. Looked like it was going off - have a good time, and you boys be careful out there (and try and meet some people we can stay with for the World Cup next year!)
