We decided last night to head down to Warwick, so we booked a room at the Lord Leycester. We headed off after breakfast and got onto the M1. A little bit scary, but Darryl handled it. There are 3 lanes, and the very right lane was the very fast lane.  We needed petrol, so pulled off the M1 into a Services area and got in the wrong lane and ended up back on the M1, very funny, but we got off at the next one and got petrol.

We decided to stop at Nottingham and check out the museum about Robin Hood etc. Very interesting, and amazing that where we were standing, a castle had been built there in the year 1500.

On our way again, we headed back out to the M1 and saw a 55 drag car on the back of a tow truck. We were in the fast lane, so photo was a hit and miss, but got it.

We arrived in Warwick and found our hotel, after going around the block a few times, put our bags in the room and then set out to explore.

There is so much history here in England. We went into a building called the Lord Leycester Hospital (same name as our Hotel), here in Warwick, that in 1571, the Earl of Leicester established a retirement home for old soldiers disabled in the service of Queen Elizabeth I. The hospital was set up in buildings which were already, by then more than 150 years old. So it remains, more or less, to this day. Bit disappointed that we could not see inside, as they had shut for the day and they have a wedding tomorrow, so will not open.

We headed down to The Bowling Club, and had a couple of drinks before dinner. We were sitting in a beer garden and it was really nice. We got talking to a lovely older couple, Tom and Di (he was 77 and she was 65). We swapped email addresses and told them they had a bed if they wanted to come to Australia.

We left there at 9.30pm to get some dinner. This daylight till 10pm is really messing with my head.

Tomorrow we hit the castle!

Hi Kim and Darryl,

No one goes to Swindon except to visit the Great Western Railway Museum...

It's worth a look, even if you're not a railway fan, even if only to see the fire engine with Allan's initials on the number plate.

You owe it to yourself to try the Black Pudding too. And do the ton in the right hand lane next time you're on the motorway.... I've yet to see any evidence of the speed limit being enforced.
