For My Friends, from Iqutios Peru

I want to let my friends know I am back in Iquitos Peru, and loving it again. No posts here on Travel Pod means there is not enough time for me to do everything. Let me share with you what I have accomplished.

My boat building crew have been rebuilding Dawn on the Amazon I, making her longer and wider, to accommodate larger groups for several overnight Amazon adventures. When Dawn I was loaded for adventure, there was too much gas in the back by the motor that caused a drag and loss of efficiency. We had a large aluminum gas tank custom made to fit on the bow, under the entrance platform and behind the steps to improve the balance and efficiency. We are turning Dawn I into the best Amazon adventure boat operating out of Iquitos Peru.

I had a nice surprise when my son came to visit Iquitos Peru for forty five days. That many days gave us a chance to take two cruises and several fun day trips. We went to Pacaya Samiria National Reserve for ten days, and three days to Tamshiyacu Tahuayo Reserve. It was good for father and son.

I am honored to have been chosen to write for the Amazon Golf Course website. The Amazon Golf Course is located a few kilometers outside Iquitos Peru. It is the only golf course in the Amazon watershed of Peru. I think it is an interesting story which I will tell here when the web site is up and running.

The most famous movie produced here in Iquitos Peru is undoubtedly, Fitzcarraldo, directed by Warner Hertzog. Walter Saxer was the executive producer. Walter bought the house that was the base of operations for that production, and he still lives there amongst some movie memorabilia. Marmelita and I also lived there for several months. It is a lovely place with a nice pool.  We went back recently to swim and relax. Nice place. I will share some of the details in a later post.

Thanks,

Bill Grimes
