We arrived bright & early in BA and headed straight to the PO where we were hoping to pick up packages from both our parents including the latest Harry Potter for me...but once again...NOTHING! Ahhhhhhh! Itīs so gutting...so after a few tears we jumped on the tube to Saint Elmo to find there was no room at the inn! Served us right for not booking ahead and as the guy at the hostel said...īthatīll learn us!!!ī. He was an absolute star though and sorted us out with his friend around the corner...suitably named īHome from Homeī and it was very funky..high ceilings, shuttered doors and lovely bright colours...the owner was abit intense but very friendly and without him we wouldnīt have found the BEST steaks in BA! Watch this space! After a quick snooze we headed out to Saint Elmo to have a look around and itīs basically a very quaint part of the city with cobbled streets, olde worlde cafes & antique shops...it was then that we stumbled across Our Bar run by a very cute old man who kept bringing us unbelievably cheap carafes of red vino! This was basically to set the scene for our time in BA, red wine & steaks! Mmmmmm! Now as I mentioned earlier, the guy at the hostel told us about this little gem of a restaurant so we headed straight there to try out the steaks! Paul was to be dominant husband of the evening and did all the ordering...the boy did good...we had steak, lamb, huge sausage, black pudding all washed down with a bottle of bubbly!!!! And all I can say about the steak is that...well...it was just erotic!!! Sorry Mum! It literally just melted in your mouth and even then it doesnīt do it justice!!! Think every steak we have from now on is going to be a disappointment! We ended up getting VERY drunk, eventually staggered home and might even have fallen over on the way but we canīt remember! Hee Hee!

The next day, our proper sightseeing began and we also moved to the hostel (The Garden House!) we had originally planned to go to as there was alot more going on, lots of info, etc! We walked from Saint Elmo up into the centre to the Plaza de Mayo and the Casa Rosada where Evita made her famous speeches! Every Thursday, the Madres de la Plaza de Mayo march in the square to try and get the government to account for the atrocities carried out in the Dirty War! If you get a chance to read any of Argentinaīs history, itīs really tragic!!!! We then stopped for a drink at the very famous Cafe Tortoni - the oldest cafe in Buenes Aires where all the waiters where bow ties and you can imagine what it would have been like in the old days! In modern times, it lets riff raff like us in, Paul in his trackie Bīs, me looking like a clown (according to my hubby) as we had put all our normal clothes in for washing! It had a really nice atmosphere though and we had coffee, beer & cake - our waiter commented on the classic combination! Hee Hee! Our explorations then continued across the widest road in the world...all 16 lanes of it...eeeeekkkk...but to be honest think I felt alot safer crossing the roads here than some of the ones in Asia! We then stumbled across an outdoor exhibition in one of the parks that basically told Argentinaīs history through photographs of all the major events up to the present day with translations in English too. Really fascinating! It was then a mad rush to the bus station to buy bus tickets for the next day and jumping on the tube to get back to the hostel as mum was ringing! We made it with a couple of minutes to spare! Yipppeeee! And then guess what we did??? Oh yes, another Team Smedders routine in the making...back to Our Bar and Our Restaurant! Stuffed & steaming again!

The next day we had a very lazy morning waiting for washing to dry which turned into a very lazy day! The sun was shining so we headed to Plaza Dorrego in the centre of Saint Elmo and it was packed with people enjoying the sunshine having a late lunch, street performers, crafts, old men playing cards, you name it! So we joined in with lunch and a beer, had a lazy carafe in Our Bar and then jumped on a tube to the bus station for our overnight bus to Montevideo in Uruguay!
