Well this was to be our longest day of travelling yet! We set off from El Calafate at midday, arrived at Rio Gallegos at 4 and got the overnight bus (leather seats & everything!) to Puerto Madryn at 6 arriving in Puerto Madryn at midday the next day!!! Woweeeee! We ended up with a seriously annoying air conditioning unit that rattled unbelievably and when a slightly tipsy Argentinian tried to fix it with his beer can, he ended up spilling the dregs over this English guy sat next to me! The whole experience could have been quite amusing apart from the English guy freaked out and started f'ing and blinding all over the place! Hmmmm! His language was obviously passing onto his girlfriend who then started f'ing and blinding too when an old woman pushed past her...which also could have been quite amusing!!! High tolerance levels then!!!!!!!
Some things remain consistent though...even more cheese & ham sandwiches!!!!!!
Can you believe though that we spotted a whale on our first afternoon in Puerto Madryn...we wandered to the end of the jetty infront of the town and there it was spurting away!!!! There was even a little sealion messing around underneath the jetty as well! Hopefully this was a sign of things to come! Puerto Madryn had a really nice feel to it actually...bit of a seaside town with a big, long beach, lots of shops & restaurants. Over a random brekkie chat the next morning, we ended up hooking up with our very own little tour group - even better because by the time we met up with them in the afternoon, they´d done all the negotiating so all we had to do was say yes and pay! GENIUS! So we were off to explore the Peninsula Valdez and hopefully spot lots of whales on our 1st wedding anniversary! Awwwwww! But not before seeing 3 more whales from the jetty - including one that came swimming straight towards us so we could literally walk alongside it as it headed by the side of the jetty and out to sea! Oooooo tingles in your tummy!
