We headed for the Equator this morning and the ´Mitad del Mundo´ at latitude 0'0'0! We can both now say we´ve straddled the equator and had our feet in the N & S Hemisphere at the same time! Wow eh! The North was definitely the best of course! Very touristy but interesting to go there, wander round the museum and admire the scenery around it! There was a street carnival going on when we got there...they knew we were coming obviously so all in all a very lively morning!
We then literally bezzed back to Quito as we had to check out of the hostel by 12 and hoped to get to Riobamba that day!!! Got there just in the nick of time, grabbed our bags jumped on a tram to the bus station, bought our tickets and bought the best chicken & rice from one of the street vendors! We then gave ourselves indigestion eating so fast as we´d skipped brekkie and were both absolutely starving and settled back for the stunning scenery on the next step of our journey through the Andes! Unfortunately it was abit cloudy to see Cotopaxi (Ecuador´s highest active volcano) but as we approached Riobamba we saw the snow-capped Chimborazo & Carihuairazo volcanos...and believe me they´re big! We arrived in Riobamba late afternoon and there was another street parade there to greet us! They´re so welcoming in Ecuador don´t you think! Had a huge chifa for tea (chinese!)...don´t think the weight loss is going to go so well with the size of the portions out here!
