We decided to head up tīNorth from Quito to a place called Ibarra, the capital of the Imbabura province, to get a taste of a real Ecuadorian town! The scenery (which we discovered was to be the norm!) was stunning! Huge mountains, amazing panaromas and traditional villages which didnīt look as theý'd changed much in centuries! Showing violent films was also to be on the agenda on the bus journey...they obviously donīt have much censorship in Ecuador as I was sat next to a goggle-eyed 4 year old happily watching men having their heads chopped off and gouged in various places! Nice!

Ibarra is basically famous for itīs horse & carts, specialty ice-cream and itīs setting at the foot of several huge mountains! Think this is the main reason it stood our for Paul in the Lonely Planet! We spent the afternoon wandering around itīs cobbled streets exploring the townīs many churches and squares and obviously sampled the ice-cream which is basically almost a sorbet but bloody nice! Especially the blackcurrant (or mora!) flavour! After unsuccessfully trying to buy some shower gel and encountering numerous blank faces (not v common in Ecuador!), we headed out for a Mexican and had an early night not like the blokes in the room next door...definitely on an Ecuadorian boyīs night out!!!!
