Heading further South again we had yet another change of driver!! This one sounded like he was heavy breathing down his mic every time he spoke to us like some dirty porn star!! Nice! Anyway were we in for some long drives on this stretch of the trip which equalled lots of snoozing and silliness! Our first stop 800km later was at Coober Pedy - a town made famous for its opal mines and the fact that alot of the houses and buildings are underground because of the temperature (highest recorded was 8 consecutive days at 57 degrees celcius! Ouch!) Even the church! Basically it would cost you A$1000 per room to get your house built in Coober Pedy which is dirt cheap if you could hack living underground! The richest man is single but has a house with something like 45 bedrooms - God knows what he's planning!

We had a very amusing resident showing us around the town who told us some amusing stories about the place Menu of the day

! Basically they're all abit mad, you can buy explosives at the supermarket! One time when the lady decided to add another room on to her house, she decided to do it herself with a selection of small home-made bombs (you're not supposed to do it yourself!!!) After the first two bombs had gone off, she suddenly heard some shouting from the roof! On going to investigate, she found her neighbour f'ing and blinding as the bomb had blown up through his toilet while he was sat on it! The best thing was he was stood on the roof with his trousers round his ankles! Hee Hee! Great little place though and very community-oriented - everyone tends to pitch in if something needs doing! It's also been the location for lots of films such as 'The Adventures of Prescilla, Queen of the Desert'! WOW! Anyway enough waffling, had pizza for dinner and was forced to take a photo of Paul & Grandad infront of the 'Umoona' sign infront of our underground hotel - guess what it was of!!! Lucky me eh???

The next morning we had a a quick stop at Lake Hart, the 3rd largest salt lake in Oz which was pretty cool although thinking the ones in Bolivia and Chile may be even more impressive! :0) How exciting! It was basically being used by the Australian army testing bombs and stuff so there's lots of UXO's on it! We just looked from the edge - don't worry mums! We had a quick lunch stop at Woomera which some of you men may have heard of as its an ex US satellite base and there's basically lots of models of missiles, shuttles and stuff On the edge of Wilpena pound

! I preferred playing frisby (badly!)! It was a bit of a disjointed day looking back with not alot achieved - this is what happens when you've got such large distances to cover!!! Our next stop was it Port Augusta where we caught our first glimpse of the sea! Paul got very excited and claimed first view! Interesting fact about this place is that they actually measured the size of the Boxing Day Tsunami on the seismograph here! Just as the sun was setting we arrived in the Flinders Ranges and our camp for the night at the Rawnsley Sheep Station! Managed to run up the hill quickly with a few beers to catch the last of the suns rays which was stunning - it has to be said the sunrises and sunsets coming down from Darwin have been unbelievable! We just don't get colours like that in England!!!

The Flinders Ranges are beautiful and we got to see the huge expanse of them on our climb up Mount Ollsson-Bagge (941m)! It was a really nice walk actually and the views from the top were spectacular - don't know how far we could see but it was a long, long way! Took some cool shots at the top and then headed back down for lunch but not before sliding part of the way down on my bottom! Yes mum...clumsy as ever! (at least my injuries were real Granadad!!!) Hee Hee! Our last night of the tour was spent in Parachilna and this was literally in the middle of no-where! It had a population of 20, a police station with no policeman, even more tragic - a fire station with no firemen just buckets, booooo, and a school but no children Sunrise as we head to Adelaide

! Figure that one out! The hostel was great though and we had a traditional Ozzie BBQ with camel sausages, emu meatballs and kangaroo steaks washed down with a few beers to commemorate our last evening together! Awwwwww!

Our final day to Adelaide was mainly spent on the road with a spot of wine-tasting on the way which always goes down well and how can I not mention the genius bakery we found on our lunch stop (Paul had a quick shave in the public toilets in preparation for seeing his mummy! Awwwww!) with the best selection of cakes ever!!! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! What a great way to end a fantastic trip with my husband and Grandad (like having two annoying big brothers teasing me constantly for 2 weeks and beating me up! 1,2,3 awwww! Love you really!) We got dropped off at the Greenways apartments in Adelaide and then begins another story......
