As you might have guessed, we managed to get our flights to Jakarta with the lovely Air Asia again! We were even able to manage to walk to the airport which saved us a few pretty pennies and doesn't happen very often! We made a spur of the moment decision as well and bought our tickets with Merpati to fly out of Surabaya in East Jakarta one week later to Flores (about 3 islands further east from Bali)! So feeling highly organised and efficient we once again boarded our flight, on-time and enjoyed some great nasi goreng (fried rice) and my last Milo! Booohooo! (Can anyone find out if you can get it in England?)

We arrived in Jakarta just before lunch and jumped on a bus into town and managed to find an OK guesthouse in no time at all! So the exploration of Indonesia's capital began...and our first real experience of SMOG! Big time! We got a real birds eye view of this from the top of the Monas (dubbed as Soekarno's last erection...you'll see why when I upload the photo!) It's a huge city with such contrasts from the slums to the towering skyscrapers - it's got the largest mosque in SE Asia and some interesting sculptures all with stupid nicknames such as 'Howzat' for all the cricket lovers out there! Again the photo speaks for itself! For anyone who goes to Java just watch out with the restaurants where they put lots of dishes down infront of you! We got really excited as the concept is that you just eat what you want and then they tot the bill up at the end! Boy did we get stung! Some definite tourist prices going on - i.e. double it and add 50000! Hee Hee! Tasted good though! Other things to watch out for in Jakarta - getting knocked over by the motorbikes riding on the pavements - the traffic is manic and evil little girls at guesthouses who dig their nails into you as hard as they can!!!! Owwwwww!
