Heaven on earth!

We were the lucky ones on the bus and had the luxury of seats, some of the late arrivals had to make do with plastic stools in the middle of the aisle! No-one complains though, they just get on with it and manged to get some sleep in the most interesting positions!!!! Can you imagine that happening in England??? Again a huge contrast to the VIP (2+1) seats we had in Malaysia!!
We arrived at about 8 in the morning and picked up a bemo to the ferry accompanied by 'CRAZY WOMAN'! This woman was literally mad and just waffled away at us, singing every now and again and pulling the most amusing facial expressions! We were in stitches! Luckily she attached herself to another English guy in the bemo and decided she wanted to carry his bags to the boat! Very amusing and she basically stuck with us on the boat all the way to Tuk Tuk! Hee Hee! Our first views of the lake were some of our most memorable yet and made us instantly relaxed knowing that this as definitely the best place we'd been to so far! We got dropped off and inavertedly joined a wedding procession walking along the road...as you do! Nice though seeing everybody dressed in their Sunday best! We managed to find a lovely hotel (the Carolina) and splashing out on what must have been the nicest room in the hotel - the room itself wasn't the selling point, it was the view and all for 5 pounds a night!!!!! We were in heaven and both sat there on the balcony with stupid grins on our faces! The water at Lake Toba is so clear and warm, Paul was like a little kid and must have decreased the water level quite drastically throughout the afternoon practising his dive bombs!!!! I think what we found most attractive about the place though was just the changing moods of the place - at anytime of the day whether it was beautiful sunshime ir torrential rain - we never got bored of looking at the view
The whole of Tuk Tuk (an island in the middle of the lake) was empty though! There was literally a handful of tourists on the whole island and there are so many guesthouses and resturants! Very sad knowing how beautiful the place is! We found the best restaurant on the island though or we thought so anyway and the the owners literally treated us like family! We went there on our first night and they promised if we came back the next night, they would buy fresh fish the next morning and cook us local specialites! You have never tasted food as good in your life and they even manged to find a birthday cake for Paul with candles and even his name in icing!!! Awwwww! Bit belated but think we both managed to draw our birthdays out over a few days!!!! Great idea!
We can both easily say this is our favourite place so far and definitely somewhere we would love to come back to soon! It's the only place we've really wanted to stay and after having the 'Should we stay or should we go?' quandry, we had to move on really as our time to see the rest of Indonesia was so short but leaving was hard!!!! The most naturally beatiful place in the world!
