What a great little town Melaka is! Full of cute buildings set on an estuary, it reminded us abit of a Portuguese/Cornish seaside town - don't ask us why! There was even a sign telling us that we were 10,863km away from London! (Fancy meeting up for a beer anyone?) There's a strong Dutch influence here and lots of pink buildings, a great china town and the most fascinating place for me was a shop that made shoes for bound feet - now illegal but still produced for the tourist industry! If anyone's read 'Memoirs of a Geisha' or any of the books written about China, you wouldn't believe how small these shoes are - just 3 inches long! I'll upload a photo of a woman wearing them! Shocking and fascinating! We ended up staying in a great guesthouse (The Travellers Lodge) with a split level room! V posh eh? And it made Paul's night when we had kebabs for tea!
