As it turned out we were very lucky on the boat ride into the park as we saw lots of monkeys, a couple of hornbills and even a monitor lizard swimming alongside of us (I thought it was a crocodile and announced this to the rest of the boat
Unfortunately the amount of wildlife you can see in the park now is pretty limited as the animals have been scared deeper into the jungle (hence why I said we were lucky on the boatride!) Even so, its a beautiful spot and we had great fun walking around! We spent at least 45 minutes trying to take a picture of a butterfly at one of the hides (that's the only thing we saw apart from the mossies!) and Paul battled the currents swimming in the river! We had torrential rain overnight and late afternoons and it was mad to see the level of the water changing! On our boat ride to the park, we had struggled in places as the water was too shallow and overnight the floating resturants had moved to the middle of the river! CRAZY!
The highlight of the park is the canopy walkway built above the rain forest...its a very surreal experience standing in amongst the huge trees and the views are amazing! We tackled another one of our steep treks up a small hill (compared to Mount Kinabalu) but I was twice as knackered for some reason and got.....wait for it....ATTACKED BY A BLOOD SUCKING LEECH! (Never mind Baron Greenback, Lieutenant Leech is far worse!) Well...attacked maybe a little bit of an exaggeration as I didn't actually realise it had been sucking all the blood out of my ankle until it fell off! Paul had found a little one on his leg earlier and had asked me if I could feel anything on mine and I adamantly confirmed that I couldn't! As soon as I found out though, I started to feel rather weak....hee hee! Only joking but managed to play on it for a while like any good woman!!!
