Kratie is one of the few places in the world where you can go and see the very rare (only 80 to 90 surviving) Irawaddy fresh water dolphins so we decided to jump on a bus and head north to have a look for ourselves! One thing about Cambodia is that there seems to be alot more rubbish on the streets than anywhere else we've been - Kratie was no exception! We had some fun with the guesthouse as well who tried to rip us off majorly when they quoted us a price to go and see the dolphins so we decided to move!!! This ended up with me having a very long chat with them about honesty and that we wouldn't mind being ripped off or paying 'foreigners prices' if they were just honest about it!!! We gave them a second chance in the end and all was well and good apart from they did keep following us everywhere and always seemed to arrive at the boat/bus booking place before we did! Hmmmmmm!

The bike ride out to the Dolphins was great - riding along a dusty, dirt track with stilt houses on either side gave us a really good feel for the day to day life in rural Cambodia - all the children weere waving and shouting Hello! That's the best thing - everybody smiles, waves and wants to know where you're from and where you're going! It was really easy to spot the dolphins apart from I spent half the time trying to take a photograph which was trying to do the impossible! We've got one photo and if you zoom in really far, squint and use a magnifying glass, you can just about make out a fin! WOW! We only stayed one night in Kratie and then took a superspeed boat to Kamphong Cham and the bus from there to PP - the boat ride was really relaxing and I spent the journey trying to teach some children English and they taught me to count to 10 in Cambodian! Educational as well you see!
