From Paksan we jumped on a very unfriendly bus to Lak Sao! We got our wires crossed with the guesthouse the night before and he thought we'd said that we wanted to take the bus to Lak Sao at 05:45 so we get a very nice wake-up call and got ready in a grand total of 5 minutes!! Impressive eh?
Can't believe I'm going to say this but getting up early is so worth it!! (AAAH!) the sunrise was stunning, we literally felt like we were in a postcard with the early morning mist on top of the lakes and fields!
Lak Sao was abit of a weird place (30km away from the Vietnamese border). Don't think they've really seen many Westerners outside of the bus station...we think most people must just change buses there but not actually stay overnight so we had abit of a mixed reception from extreme friendliness to downright horror. They think we're abit mad as well walking around with no jumpers on and Paul in his shorts as to them its really cold! Can you imagine how they'd feel if they went to England! One boy was so freaked out when he saw us that he ran away and we had to make a huge detour as we felt so bad! Think it might have been Paul's sunglasses making him look like the Terminator! Grrrr!
As a place, it had a beautiful mountain backdrop and the most amount of dust ever! We saw rats being cooked on BBQ's...errrrr and got stalked by a tuk tuk driver who wouldn't take no for an answer! Random memories to share with you there!
