Chiang Rai was nice but not as nice as Chiang Mai in our opinion although the night market and the food stalls were fantastic and you could get absolutely everything ridiculously cheaply! I made friends with a lovely fruitman who cut my watermelon into heart shapes! Paul had 2 jugs of Chang beer and was giggling away making me chuckle!
I managed to choose the noisiest guesthouse in Chiang Rai which resulted in us both getting not much sleep although I think Paul's was aided by the Chang! Put it this way, we bought earplugs the next day in Boots (couldn't get over this! Everything was laid out in the same way as well!) We went Wat-tastic early next morning and explored all the buildings and then after lunch got a bus up to Mae Sai on the Burmese border...
PS I bought new sandals as well in an attempt to top the toe-stubbing which was becmoning too much of a habit! My big toe was black and blue and Paul was even thinking about reverting back to my old nickname of SPAM!!! Something had to give!!!
