Our 3 month wedding anniversary! Awwwwww!

Now this was the windiest bus journey ever! It even warned us in the Lonely Planet, that the journey was likely to make young children sick!!! They were right! We had the joyous noise of retching for the majority of the way - great when you've got the start of a dicky tummy yourself but agin the scenery was SUPERB! We got the bus to Fang heading over towards the North East as you'll see on the map and then took a songthaew to Tha Ton where we were hoping to get to in time to take to passenger boat to Chiang Rai but as it happened we got there too late so decided to check in overnight and get the boat the next day!

Now the Lonely Planet didn't really give credit to this place but we really liked it - its ridculously close to the Burmese border and in the mountains you can see some lovely wats! We decided to splash out a bit for our wedding anniversary and stayed in a guesthouse with a cracking view of the river and mountains! Paul had a good old argument with the guesthouse owner as the shower didn't have hot water and this was the most we'd paid for a room! Hee Hee!

The river run to Chiang Rai basically took half a day and we set off at lunchtime in a motorised longtail boat down the Kok river and it was FAB! We actually thought aout getting the bus to Chiang Rai but I'm so glad we didn't! Just getting a chance to see people going about their everyday lives down the river, fishing, farming, kids playing - we must have taken 100's of photos! Thank God for digital photography! Paul found it very amusing how even though we were in a boat, people still managed to look surprised when they got wet with the spray!!

We had one stop on the way down which was hugely commercialised but there was a v cute baby elephant playing with everyone and some huuuuge snakes in cages which I kept away from!
