We decided to head off west from Chiang Mai to do the circuit through the Mae Hong Son Province taking in Mae Hong Son and Pai as well (recommended by AJ and Vicky!!)! The bus journeys wwre long not due to the distance just due to the terrain going up and down the hills which was stunning if not abit hairy as Paul has just told me! I have this natural ability to fall asleep whenever we're on a bus which from what I've just been told is a good thing as Paul saw a truck crash into a tree (or the aftermath) and a section of the road which had disappeared due to a landslide....nice!!! Quite glad we've just purchased ear plugs as well...hear no evil, see no evil!
Mae Hong Son is a very pretty little town with a Wat overlooking the town offering great views and icecream!!! The Wats here are more Burmese in style - we were literally only a few kilometres away from the Burmese border and the clothing that the locals wore reminded me of pictures of Peru for some reason! Sure this will be revealed when we get there!
One of the highlights here was a banana pancake type thing covered in condensed milk and chocolate! Not great for the arteries but tasted yummy! No...the weight still isn't coming off :0)
