The alarm went off at 7.30 am and papa jumped out of bed but I just turned over as I am on HOLIDAY. Anyway at 8 it became unavoidable I had to get up too as this was the big day for The Louvre. After a quick continental breakfast, (and why not we were on the continent) we headed of for the most famous museum in Paris, and as it is not only famous but also big it has it's own metro stop from which we arrived direct under the enormous glass pyramid. I did not expect it to be this big and, that the building is in itself an exhibit too. First Greek sculpture, than Italian renaissance paintings of which of course La Gioconda, better known as the Mona Lisa, is the main attraction. This is a lot smaller than I thought and I was surprised how it is part of other paintings in that room. But she is beautiful. Next on to the Apollo gallery a room covered in gold and beautifully painted ceilings. On to the Flemish and Dutch paintings and these were different from the Italian stuff, some were landscapes and still lives and portraits and church paintings and most seemed to be painted in different styles again, I was captivated by the still lives of fruit flowers and game and loved the portraits of wealthy dutch merchants in their black lace outfits. On the way back to the main entrance we stopped by at some other highlights of the Etruscan and Egyptian galleries some of which are absolutely enormous in size. But this is Paris and girl's gotta do what a girls's gotta do. SHOP! On to place Vendome with the most exclusive shops in Paris. Here we got mum a €25.000 pen from Mont Blanc, but we changed our mind as they were just plain rude. We went to Galleries Lafayettes and many other shops. Then back to the hotel for a quick afternoon snack and there we decided to go and see a movie and The Champs Élysées beckoned, we saw the world according to Ralph, which was a lot of fun. Now I'm tired so goodnight but tune in tomorrow for our special report from the Eiffel Tower.
