. The family tree looked like a ten ring dartboard with four quadrants. Each ring was a decade. In the centre (1918) were Papa's grandparents Gerhard and Rien, each quadrant would then hold on it's respective decade their child and partner (wouter, guusje, gerhard, and dieneke) and their children with partners again and their children. You still with me? Papa's aunt Guusje was in one quadrant born in the 20's with her children born in 50's and 60's and their children born in 80's and 90's. It was a big task but together as a family we completed it.
During the afternoon I met: Willemijn and her husband Roeland, he has a big moustache and a firm handshake and their children Ruud who visited us in Oz and his brother Rob who flew in from Nigeria for this day. Also Wouter Kuyck who was asking after Michelle, and his sisters Claudia and Diana and their child Laurens who is a really nice little boy. Elvire, (papa did some reminiscing with her) with her new man Hans, Pieter and Monique who had all the gadgets for papa's slideshow and their daughter Isabelle who is a very smart girl speaks English really well at 9 years old. Unfortunately Johan and Reinie had to leave suddenly, Belia and Syl left a little later. luckily we had hung out with them 2 days ago.
Marina, who had arranged this festive day and had worked tirelessly to make it happen, her lovely daughter Lotje and her brother Mathijs who is studying Aeronautical engineering I think?
Lidy and Erik who have a new dog and therefore can't come to Oz yet. Papa's sister Max and her man Danny, who teased me about shopping and boys in Paris. Sorry that Wouter Esther Charlotte Floris and Bastiaan couldn't come all struck down with illness as it happens.
Thank you to all who came it was a delightful and memorable day which I enjoyed very much!
Tomorrow I am off to Paris.
Woke up to a rainy day and papa messing around with laundry. Never imagined that jeans in a dryer would be so noisy that it would wake me up. Life at 165b Prins Hendrikkade was pretty slow as Reinie and Johan got home late after a birthday party. We started making preparations for the family day in Weeps and Reinie cooked her delicious lentils with eggplant dish. Papa was pacing around with butterflies in anticipation for the family day. With a bus and train connection we were in Weesp in no time and nearly everyone was there. Festivities kicked off immediately and a buffet was set and ready for eating. No time for that when Jacob held a speech in which he set me an awesome challenge. Hi Dawn he said in this room are all your Dutch uncles aunts and cousins, your task, should you choose to accept it, is to find out their birth year and than put them on the family tree. I accepted of course with help from papa and others I could rope in. The people I spoke to all spoke perfect English. For those of you who were not there I will try to explain
