And so the last one arrives....
And what to say? Well, flew for the first time today since Friday, due to weather. Got to the airport early in the hope I might do a cross country, but alas, it wasn't to be. So I went to Flagler, the nearest airport to Ormond, and did some landings and take-offs.
Before I left Ormond, the supervisor on duty, Bill, told me to make sure I was back by 10 o'clock, as the winds were due to pick up. So I leave Flagler and pick up Ormond's weather at 9:30, and the winds even at this stage were significantly well over my limit, but thankfully I managed to land it on the first attempt, and so ended my solo flying for the time-being.
Bagged a PPL, night-time rating, 110 hours, Raidotelephony License, and although I haven't finished what I set out to do, this is not bad at all.
A few days ago, my former instructor Kevin was called for an interview, at last, for an airline job, and thus needed his airline medical, so he asked me..."Hey Dave, can you fly me to Spruce Creek on Tuesday?". I thought this was funny as this was the first time I was asked to fly someone as a passenger, as opposed to giving someone a lift somewhere, so I duly obliged. Into the famous Spruce Creek (read previous entries), him mocking my flying, and me mocking his: "Kevin, that landing was atrocious!" lol. Back to Ormond, finalised my paperwork, and into Daytona for a few bevvies, before heading out to dinner later this evening.
The video in the middle of the photos wraps up the past nine weeks better than I could attempt to do in words.
So before I go, to all the lads (and Jessica lol) that I've met in the past nine weeks: we had only one thing in common, and yet we all got on so well and had such good craic, and always ready to help eachother out with either some positive words or practical help with flight plans etc; safe flying to you all, and I look forward to meeting you at different airports across the planet. It was a pleasure!
To James Hull, we all wish you a speedy recovery!
A thank you to all of you for your words encouraging me to continue on the few difficult days here, especially to my father for handling two very difficult phone calls. And aren't I glad I stuck with it lol.
I'm not the first person to have done this, but having waited so long to do the one thing I've always longed to, I'm dead chuffed this evening, and longing for my next flight. And as Chief Instructor Ken says to us most mornings, "Go Fly!".
Over & Out
