Leaving the Atlantic behind us is another step of the adventure.
The weather is great today and I am just riding in my mesh armour and a tee shirt. All very safe but cool.
Visited the national monument to the first flight of the Wright brothers. Very impressive to think that 66 years after their 12 second flight man was standing on the moon. We don't seem to have made much progress since then. Have we peaked technologically?
Riding down the Outer Banks is odd
Hatteras is the most easterly point. Looking out to sea there I know there is nothing between me and the UK, although I think Bill is technically right, it is probably Spain!
The most southerly place on the outer banks is Ocracoke. From there it is a long ferry back to the mainland.
There are no towns close on the mainland so we are staying at Ocracoke. A really pretty place which seems to be inhabited by ageing hippies. Every shop sells artisan tat.
As we book in to the harbours side motel they tell us there is a tornado coming tomorrow and there will be no ferries, so we believe them and book 2 nights.
Tomorrow there is a Western and Country music festival so we will try our hardest to get the hot tickets in town. Lynn, there is still time for you to come and join us
Being keen motorcyclists we are always on the lookout for great bikes. About the only ones we see are Harley's. However Lynn tells us that there are some amazing Nortons that we must look out for. No sign of any yet Lynn but trust us we are looking hard.
Boy does Bill talk. I think I am too quiet for him. It is very entertaining when he gets going.
in Manteo we were 2 minutes walk away from the town which has one restaurant in it and on the walk he stopped to ask some random person for a restaurant recommendation.
15 minutes later we are still standing there chatting about restaurants when we could have been inside 14 minutes ago. Great fun though when he is in full flow.
Everywhere we go people want to tell us West Virginia jokes. It is like we used to joke about the Irish.
"What is the difference between a West Virginian and. Virginian? When the favourite football team of a Virginian wins a game they don't set fire to the couch"
I think people, here are more scared of visiting West Virginia than Mexico. (And they are really scared of Mexico)
I am genuinely finding it difficult to eat in restaurants. Some of the people are so huge and seeing them eat is actually putting me off eating. I want to go over to them and tell them to just stop. It is very rude of me to judge but the quantity some people eat is insane. I worry the UK is going the same way. Bill says I should get out more if that's all I have to worry about.
Brilliant time tonight in a bar. As soon as we open our mouths people want to talk to us.
Lets see what the tornado brings tomorrow.
