There have been recurring mentions throughout this blog about the big jar of Vegemite that we bought upon our arrival here in Australia. I am sorry to have to report that we have admitted defeat, having barely scratched the surface of the black tar-like substance known as Vegemite. We even kind of liked it, but it just didn't compare to our other options of peanut butter, peanut butter and honey, peanut butter and jam, and peanut butter and bananas when we had our morning toast.

We even tried using it in different ways; spreading it all over a chicken and then roasting it (pretty delicious), and incorporating it into our grilled cheese sandwiches (pretty delicious as well, but soooooo salty). That being said, after 12 months of continual use and daring culinary choices, we still barely scratched the surface. It'd be a stretch to say we got through even 1/8th of the jar.

We're leaving on Friday and so we're know cleaning out our cupboards and either eating or giving away whatever's left. We've given the Vegemite away.

Vegemite, you win this round, but... well, then that means you basically win because I doubt there will ever be a round 2. Congratulations.

It can be done. When I'm feeling particularly hungry, I eat one piece of Vegemite toast and one piece of pb toast; it's heavenly.

Sorry, when I read the title, I thought you were sharing a new chinese recipe using vegemite!

No, that's "The Vegemite Wok", an entry for another day. Also, "The Vegemite Juan" is a Mexican dish we were working on and "The Vegemite One" is a script treatment we were going to try to sell to Jet Li. I got a million of 'em!

You did way better than we did. So you should feel good. The veg might have won the war but you at least put up a fight.

Safe travels home.
