Where I stayed
Kara caught a cold on the plane ride over from Kuala Lumpur so she had a bit of a lousy week. She had a bunch of orientation stuff to do too so that didn't help. But luckily she wasn't too busy throughout the days and we were able to explore the area together for the most part. We went to the museum (which is free!) and saw the largest collection of artifacts from the Pacific Islanders (Fiji, Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, etc) as well as a model of a giant squid. We biked around the city on free bikes (!) for an afternoon. The entire downtown is surrounded by park land with bike paths all throughout
We went to see 'The Dark Knight Rises' as well, at a very expensive and fancy movie theatre. You can buy and drink wine and beer in there. Pretty posh. The seats were extremely comfortable and you really felt at home which is good because the movie is almost 3 hours long. It was really good though and we had a great time. We didn't go out drinking at all so I can't tell you, dear readers, much about the pub scene. We're going back there this weekend so I may have some more information/stories for you next week...
We walked through the botanical gardens on a lovely Sunday morning and we basically had the place to ourselves. We did see another couple who were kind of tucked away behind a big tree. He had both her hands in his own hands and they were talking very quietly
We stayed at a nice hotel with a fancy restaurant at the base of it. Breakfast was 22 dollars to give you an idea of how fancy. I always equate expensive breakfasts with fanciness, and you probably do too. We didn't actually eat breakfast there, we just looked at the prices then went to IGA and bought some cereal and fruit and ate it in our room. It was nice to have a little kitchenette in our room too, we made some pretty nice meals there. At one point, I wiped the glass table clean but it was still a little wet when I placed the coffee press on it. Kara sat across the table and I had my back turned. I heard her yell and turned quickly around to see (to my eyes) her swipe the coffee press off the table and into the wall, exploding coffee and grounds everywhere. What actually happened was that the coffee press started sliding across the slightly slanted table when Kara sat down and she had tried to save it. She said I gave her a bit of a dirty look when I turned around, which I probably did. It was unconscious and I thought she was essentially throwing the coffee press against the wall. It was probably similar to the look I got from the cleaning lady when I tried to explain what happened.
Well, so that was our time in Adelaide. Kara also got a TB test and it turns out she's clean! So that was good news.
