It is now 39 days since I departed Sleap on that Saturday morning. Although I never had a particular timetable, I have underestimated the time it would take to get to California. Some of the delays have been out of my control, such as weather, fuel availability, and illness. But most it is fair to say, has been my own decision to stay on at places that I thought were worthy of further exploration.
I'm now in the place where the long range ferry tanks and HF radio are being fitted.
Today (Monday), I spent a very hot (28c),  working in the midday sun doing necessary maintenance. Who was it who said,  "only mad dog's and Englishman...." ?
It will take a few days to fit these items, and further time to get the certification signed off. I have therefore decided to return home to the UK for a couple of weeks while this work is being completed. As from Tuesday, I shall be heading to San Francisco for a couple of days before taken a commercial flight to Heathrow and change for Manchester to arrive home Saturday afternoon. The expected flight time is in excess of 15 hours, which considering my time was less than 40, it seems quite slow, especially since I took the scenic route !
I hope to visit the Aero Club at Sleap the first weekend and give an informal assessment of the journey so far to anyone who is interested. I hope to see you then. Best Wishes to you all.
