The original plan for Santiago was to spend two weeks in separate hostels while we both went to Spanish classes (and because we needed a little break from each other after being together 24/7 for over 4 months). Well...it didn't quite happen like that. I probably should have listened to David at the start when he thought it wasn't the best idea in the world.
I picked the short straw with the hostel I chose (even though David let me have first choice) and felt like I was back in a crappy university halls room right next to the communal kitchen and smoking terrace. After realising that David's hostel was way better than mine and right next to my language school, I admitted that my idea was pretty stupid and moved into his hostel a few days later (this may be the first time I've ever admitted I was wrong so I'm sure David will milk this one for ever).
We had such a fantastic time in Santiago. It was really nice to have a break from long bus journeys and be settled in one place for a while. We met loads a fantastic people in our hostel and went out drinking pretty much every night. The bars in Santiago don't really get going until around 1am so you can imagine how hard it was to drag ourselves to lessons in the morning after only a couple of hours sleep.
La Chimba hostel in Bellavista was the best hostel we've stayed in since we've been away and really felt like home. We were both very sad when it was time to leave. But back on the road we must go...
