We got up early and charged through the town of Waimea and in to Waimea Canyon State Park. The Canyon is known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. Kauai (like the other Hawaiian Islands) was formed by volcanoes rising up from the ocean floor. The canyon was created when part of the island collapsed creating the depression which is over 3,000 feet deep in places.

We drove up to the top, took some pictures, and did a short hike on the Pihea Trail which affords awesome views of the Napali Coast down below. I would have preferred to hike more, but the boys were really itching to surf after the waves of the previous day. When we started the trial, it was actually pretty chilly because it was at an elevation of over 5,000 feet, so the temp dropped some 20-25 degrees below what is was at sea level. It's crazy to see such a significant temperature drop in such a short time. Nothing exciting happened on the trail but the area was very beautiful. The pictures I took should speak for themselves.

We got back down to Intersections but the waves were not any good today. I actually didn't catch any good waves on this day. It wasn't working anything like it had been the previous day. Still, it was a bright sunny day on the west coast of Kauai and we still had hot dogs and beer so I enjoyed myself in indulging in some of those. We returned to the house that evening and had a quiet night.
