Goodbye to New York.

The time is currently 4.00pm Friday and this is our last night and obvioulsy our last update from NYC.
The past week as flown by - even more so as we have crammed SOOOOO much into the time we have been here. They say New York is a city that never sleeps. Well they are right. We have been shopping at Borders Books at 10pm, eating dinner close to midnight and the crowds in Times Square never die down.
Since our last update on Wednesday we went to the 'Top of the Rock' which is the obversation deck at the Rockerfeller Centre. It has only been reopened for a few years and it is certainly a more spectacular view than the Empire State. We then went to MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) for the Dali exhibition.
Thursday we redeem our vouchers for the popular Hop On Hop Off bus tours. This is such a great way to see the city as there are three bus loops that operate pretty much non-stop for each loop. We started with the downtown loop through the fashion and then the financial district where we hopped off to walk around Wall St and see the Stock Exchange. We saw a free photographic exhibition close by so decided to take a look. It's a bit scary with the police presence in Wall St and the Stock Exchange. Armed NYPD with M-16 automatic machine gunds on every street corner. We then walked across the Brooklyn bridge over to....Brooklyn (where else). Got the bus back to Times Square for an early dinner. We then took the bus again for the night tour so you could see the lights of Manhattan. While this was great the night air effected David and gave him a sore throat to add to his cold.
Today we took the uptown loop and called in to see the Diner used in Seinfeld. We then went through Harlem and then onto the Guggenheim Museum. We were glad to say we went to the Guggenheim but the exhibition of...well whatever it was left us felling a little flat. Next stop: The Central Park Zoo where we saw the cutest (big, mean and fluffy) Polar bear doing laps of his olympic pool.
A few other things: The television and newspaper coverage of the Democractic Convention for Obama has been non-stop. George W Bush (god love him) has been rather quiet of late. We can only imagine the things he is plotting before he is ousted. We have found a few Nazi's similar to the Soup Nazi (from Seinfeld). There is the Pizza Nazi at a place called Ben's Pizza's (actually used in Men In Black II). We had take away lunch there on a bus tour and we literally had to order the exact same way as the Soup Nazi! Pretty funny. Times Square is a place to avoid as there are too many bloody tourists. The Cepacol's (for David's sore throat) would be illegal in Australia as his tounge went numb within the first 30sec.
We say goodbye to NYC with tears in our eyes. We saw some hope this morning when we read the real estate prices in Manhattan were dropping. Maybe, just maybe we could buy something over here and bring the pets.....
Love to all and tomorrow we are off to Washington D.C. to the nations capitol.
