Arica is the most Northerly town in Chile, smack bang on the border into Peru and Bolivia. The population is around 200,000 and the City lies on the Sea with a shipping port and surfing beaches.
We have stayed in a really cool surf hostel here where table tennis matches have been a plenty each day after lunch! Unfortunately I have not been able to beat Dave yet. Grrr. The water is cold and the surf quite small so no surfing for Dave. We checked out a museum where there are 4,000-5,000 year old mummies. A developer purchased an old house in town and when they started redeveloping they found around 35 human remains (ranging from infants to adults). The government re-possessed the area and made a museum keeping the bodies as they were found.
All in all, Arica was pretty quiet for us. Just walks, nana naps and table tennis. Very nice to have some downtime though :-)
Tomorrow.... We are off to Bolivia! Definitely looking forward to making up some $$.
