We got out of town Tuesday morning about 10 a.m., which is a record for us! We only had to wait for 15 minutes at the bridge in Parrita where we got stuck for 50 mins coming down, and we felt very lucky for it!
The trip was pretty uneventful and smooth driving through some very rural parts of Costa Rica, until we reached the road going up the mountain to Monteverde. It was paved for about the first 10 miles, then unpaved gravel moonscape for another 15 miles! We are driving a Daihatsu Terios 4x4 vehicle. I think Daihatsu in Costa Rica means "Pray you donīt break an axle..." There were giant craters that we were bouncing around in but we made it! It took us about 2 hours to go 15 miles over those roads. Eventually Dave started to get used to it and then we were flying through the craters like a Disneyland ride!
We got to the beautiful mountain town of Monteverde in late afternoon and found our hotel which was very nice and inviting after a long trek! Only problem is, the town is about a mile high elevation and itīs freezing up here! The hotel has no heat in the room at all, so we have 7 blankets on the bed to stay warm! The hot water worked at first but now itīs lukewarm at best. BRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrr.
