Where I stayed
With that out of the way, we headed to Westminster to see the houses of parliament and Big Ben. We arrived and walked around a bit taking some photos. We headed over to Westminster abbey, but decided not to go in as the entry cost was quite high (we're also thinking about getting a british heritage pass that includes here as well). Instead we went into the free St Margarets Church just next door. This is a much smaller and less impressive building, but is the parish church for the Palace of Westminster. We then walked further around the Palace, taking a few more photos along the way
After leaving Westminster, we got back on the underground and headed up to the British museum. We stopped for lunch on the way and I had fish and chips while the girls had steak and kidney pie with jacket potatos. After lunch we walked over to the museum and bought ourselves a map to navigate our way through. There's not a lot to say about this museum except that its large and fairly boring, both of which I knew before we got there but don't think the girls realised. Its one of those "must see so I can say I've been there" places. The thing that is interesting is that just about every 'treasure' has been plundered from other countries, there is almost nothing British here at all. It's mainly artwork and sculptures from ancient greece, the roman and persian empires and ancient egypt. We had a few debates with Jenny about which items were real and which were replicas and a few times we checked with the staff who confirmed that we were right. A few items that were actually interesting where the egyptian mummies and some findings from britain that dated back to the roman days.
A few hours later we left, fairly disappointed by our time there
We made a curry for dinner and Imtiaz came round so we ate and chatted together for a while before he headed home. While I'm writing this, Rachel is helping Jenny plan for her english class tomorrow and now we're about to go to bed.
