So, merry Christmas.
I couldn't sleep because I had an upset stomach. I decided to go out at 9:00 but it is Christmas morning...duh. there was a nice coffee shop open so I started there.
Everything was closed but I thought a good walk would help my stomach so I looked at the tour map from the canal tour and decided to walk it. It was ok as it helped my stomach and I ended up seeing some otherwise missed areas. For example, I decided to follow the Amstel river and see where it would go. I discovered Rembrandt's house and decided to go in. I also found what could only be described as China town...plus a snake shaped street filled with irish pubs that stretched from the red light district to the "old jewish sector".
After a while, I noticed things beginning to open and decided to take the canal tour as I had originally planned. I walked up the center of the main "dam" through Dam square. and followed the canals back up toward my hotel. By now it was noon so I went back to my room to freshen up a bit before taking the tour.
let the pictures speak for themselves and in fact they don't do justice to the experience. In fact, it was a great idea as I learned a lot about some of the history and culture of Amsterdam. I took both the red and blue line tours which covers most points of interest. The weather was very very cold today and the mood somewhat lonely as it is in fact Christmas.
For the evening, I have decided to catch on rest for my weekend!!!!
