So today I woke up at 9:30...kinda weird because I have no window in my room...the budget room. Meanwhile, I am anxious to go out but so many choices of things to do. Better to start at a coffee shop. So, I had seen one that looked cool the night before and stopped in...It was called "the bush" i think. I catted with the nicest Italian man who works at a pot farm and at this coffee shop. he made some recommendations and we chatted about Italy, Amsterdam, and San Francisco.
His suggestion was to see the Anne Frank house then see the van Gough because today it would be virtually empty and in the next few days it would become more difficult.
I walked about 15 minutes to the Anne Frank house. It was empty as expected and I went in. I was moved to tears. As you may know from earlier blogs, I am very fascinated and appalled by the experience of ww11. Even though, I am sure humans can be redeemed but I am not sure how. Meanwhile, there are quotes from the diaries on the walls as you walk through the house exactly as it was left after the nazi's took the family away. I was really touched by the taped interviews with the father and family "helpers". And the honesty. Frankly, the whole attitude I have experienced, is completely in line with my thinking and expectations about life. In as much as the liberal, live and let live attitude.
Allorah, after the Anne Frank, i began to head back to my hotel, but stumbled across the homo monument...it speaks for itself. it is dedicated to all who have been persecuted because of their sexuality. Naturally, i was again moved. Then i came across the tulip museum. Humble but cute... i enjoyed the tribute to flowers albeit at a cost of 4 euro.
On my walk, i encountered the flower market...A fabulous experience being from a floral career background. I thought of sending tulips to my mother but then changed my mind because it wouldn't be practical.
A brief stop at my hotel and I found the van gough museum within a short walk. I decided not to go in because Frankly, I am not a big Van gough guy and I am really enthralled by the whole experience of just being...I don't have to "do."
On my way back...I found the main Fashion district and went for a stroll amongst the designer shops...I thought of buying just one expensive piece of clothing but couldn't justify it to myself. So I again, enjoyed the experience.
My last thought was to secure my return ticket to Eindhoven just to avoid a hassle later.... i took the scenic walk over the dam to the main station and bought my ticket... on the way home stopped at the vodka museum and got some hemp vodka which I am now enjoying...
