Here's a really good albeit short story.

During my stay in Austria, one the most amazing places ever, I decided to take atrain home instead of flying.  I have some objections to flying.

Meanwhile, i went to the train station when I got to Vienna and it turned out there was no train from Vienna to rome. But from Meidling to tiburtina was an overnight with a first class sleeper for 2 available.  I decided to take it and canceled my British airways flight.

The time came for me to make my way to Meidling.  Meidling is a suburb of Vienna with a station undergoing renovation. Meanwhile it was only a small ride past the main station.  I waited for about an hour and a half, playing my usual game of deciding people's lives.

Over in the corner a gay couple returning from their regular trip to Vienna for new years, a family of Italians (Italians are everywhere), An elderly woman in the corner crying as her granddaughter is taken away saying goodbye.  Stuff like that.  I wonder what they are thinking when they see me too.  Finally, the announcement for the Roma Tiburtina...

I boarded the train with the maybe 75 other passengers and found my little cabin. A room wide enough for me and my suitcase with 2 bunks and a little sink.  I found 2 nicely packed little snack plates and a little freshen up kit.  Very cute.  Wonder who will be upstairs. Most of the rooms seemed to contain couples and surely The train station guy could have helped someone else out the same way. after all, the New years is a big holiday for everyone.

Very well, as I settled in my housemate for the ride showed up. A very quiet guy, I showed him the welcome stuff and we 2 strangers tried to assure each other that we wouldn't disturb each other. i think he was as self conscious as me.  I took my evening medications and slept quietly.

At 9;00 there was a very timid knock at the door.  The porter was asking what i would like for breakfast.  There was a small menu of about three or four choices and i had some toast and some meat and egg.  Nothing special but it was certainly nice and unexpected.

One hour more and the train pulled in to the Tiburtina station in Rome.

I am home again.
