Entry 6 of 26 | show all | print this entry

At the end of the second week, everyone was ready to blow off a little steam.  I was pretty much bogged down in homework and panic, while the girls, being so much younger, were more ready to party.  Anyway,  all of the classmates were going to meet up for a drink with one of our teachers included.  They dragged me kicking and screaming along.

The weather in Rome had been kind of off and on.  It would start sunny then rain, then muggy/cloudy, rain, sun and then more rain, more rain and more rain.

On this night it rained!  Meanwhile, we were to meet up at Largo Argentina and then stroll over to a bar selected by our teacher ( a native Roman).  Well, we waited for some of the last minute stragglers, but after some time in the rain, decided to move on and use our cell phones to update our location.  One of our group lived in Trestevere but came out to Largo A. then poor kid had to travel back as we had moved on that way.

Oh well, we went to a place called Chakra in Trestevere...had a few drinks and really talked our asses off.  Then one of the group decided we should check the local "Gay" disco.  In Rome, the straights and gays mingle.  ( a little wierd for me at first).  It was a rather long way in the rain and I was tired, drunk and soaked.  By this time, also, I was longing for a nice shower (the stalls in Rome are very small), a home cooked meal, and TV!  A little gay company wouldn't hurt either.

So, off we went, soaked, on the bus, and walk in the rain.  By the time we got there, our group had shrunk to me, my teacher, Deb and I think the rest pretty much turned around right when we got there, but I don't remember everything clearly.

We were at a club called: Circolo Degli Artisti.  It was large with a bar, dance floor and a fairly large outdoor "mingling area".  I was near the stage.  eventually I was on my own.  And, just as I was getting ready to leave...I noticed a pair of amazing dark eyes on me.  Some minor cruising games went on but soon I was having an intelligent conversation with a very good looking english speaking Italian by the name of Claudio.  we went outside to talk and after maybe a half hour to an hour, he asked me what I would most like to do right now.  My answer,  A hot shower in a real shower.  TV, to l ay down on a full sized bed and a hot fresh meal.

I had no idea that I would soon be spending the night at his house where I was treated to some excellent risoto, a long hot shower and as i was drifting off in front of the TV, he tucked me into a nice full sized bed!!!!!

Morning came.  I demanded that I had tons of homework to complete, but, we wanted to hang out longer.  So a little later, he drove me to the nearest metro stop and not HOME as he had promised the night before.  As it turned out,  I thought he was blowing me off.  Three American expressions were explained that day (my first English lesson) Hook Up, Hang Out and Blow Off.  I got no homework done at all.  I expected nothing else from him but...the next day, I received a text message saying he had a surprize for me.  We met and he drove me out to the "Castelli di Roma" or "Castles of Rome".  I had never heard of it but in the hills above Rome are ancient villages famous for various foods and wines.  Needless to say, I was completely taken in by the veiw, the food and the atmosphere.  Not to mention the company...what a sweet, romantic and thoughtful surprize it was indeed.

We began what is turning out to be and I hope will continue to be a very lasting relationship.

More to come on this subject in a future entry.
