Where I stayed
We arrived at the camp around 2ish after a long ride on the bumpy dusty roads of SW Uganda and instantly relaxed, this place is gorgeous. It was run by a dutch guy (and his sidekick Mike the dog).
Our tent was pitched a metre from the lake and we spent the afternoon watching otters and kingfishers patrol the lake and weaver birds frantically making their nests. The natural world didn't stop talking at night either as we went to bed serenaded by frogs and grasshoppers.
We took a canoe out for the day and visited a couple of the islands with a couple of people we met. After half an hour we had to abandon the water and head to land as a huge storm was brewing. Turned out to be ok as we were treated to a bongo drumming and dancing lesson.
That night we mentioned to Roland (the manager) about how wild the Ugandans went for grasshoppers, thirty seconds later he returned with a plate of them. Surprisingly tasted a bit like chicken (skin). Not bad.
ps, Bon Jovi is what we re-christened the lake
