Next stop, Lima! The capital of Peru. First impression of Lima was that it was a cool city that had a bad wrap and we were rock-stars there
Another torturous 15 hour bus ride later, we got to Arequipa. Oh Arequipa, home to all you can eat Guinney Pigs and piles of puppies in cardboard boxes for $5 each. Oh sure it had beautiful history and architecture but for some reason the pile of puppies is what I remember the most. From Arequipa, we went to the Colca Canyon. It's twice as deep as the Grand Canyon in Arizona and home to the not so elusive Condor (big bird with a 3 meter wing span). This place was truly amazing and one of the most beautiful places we have been so far, plus we got to smooch with Alpacas and have eagles land on our heads..sweet. Oh ya! The elevation was over 5000 meters at one point and one of the remedies for altitude sickness is to chew coca leaves. The same leaves used to make cocaine. Fun! p.s they taste like poo poo
Last stop Cusco...the historical city of the Inca empire and entrance to the Sacred Valley containing Matchu Picchu. There definately is something sacred about the Sacred Valley (those Incas were on to something)! The hike up to Matchu Picchu at 4:00am was tough but worth it when we got up there in the dark before most of the other tourists to watch the sunrise. It is way bigger than it looks in the photos and there is so much to explore you can't help but try to imagine what it used to be like in it's hay day. Very interesting and how the heck did they get all of those giant rocks up there at such high altitude!
Ok, check out the pics and our next update will be from Bolivia!
