Scorching day in the desert. Babu our hotel minder made us breakfast on the rooftop, then we headed off to explore the Jain temples within the fort and the fort itself. In India, you can climb and explore every nook and cranny of the monuments. None of this health and safety nonsense and nowhere is off bounds. Truly amazing.
Next, it was off to do a bit of shopping to prepare for the desert safari. Shorts and t-shirts are not quite proper attire for searing desert heat. I arrived back with a fabulous white Maharaja shirt with Ali-baba pants to match - "when in Rome...".
The jeep ride out in to the desert was epic stopping off at some ancient ruins en route.
We arrived at our final destination a mere 50km from the Pakistani border where our camels awaited to trek us off across the sand dunes to the most spectacular sunset ever
"Camp" was Johnnie Foxs Rajasthani style - traditional music and singing followed by a splendid buffet feast of local vegetarian Rajasthan cooking. Amazing.
After dinner, things really heated up on the dance floor with the Indian families attending literally losing it on the dance floor. Of course we ended up being dragged up on the floor with them and we made some "crazy" moves with guys. All fantastic fun and when we left we got huge hugs and kisses from all along with business cards and promises of places to stay if we're ever in Delhi again. The Indian people are just soooooo friendly.
Once all that was over, we headed back out to the middle of the dunes where we had a bed made under the stars. Dung Beatles aside, the star show was spectacular.
Could this get any better?
