Today we headed to the West McDonnell Ranges. We visited Simpsons Gap (no apostrophes on road signs), Standley Chasm and the Ellery Creek swimming hole. They were all vastly different but amazing in their own way. At Simpson's Gap (with apostrophe put back in) Emmy sustained a toe injury similar to mine yesterday. She soldiered onto Standley Chasm where a Cyclone icy pole and a toe bandage I fastened from tissue and masking tape saw her make a remarkable recovery. Ellery Creek swimming hole was beautiful although the last three kms were a little rough and Terry Territory didn't like the bumps. The water in the hole was very cold but refreshing
We returned to the comfort of the pool as the temperature passed 40 degrees. The pool is usually a place of relaxation and fun water play. However, at 4.00 pm precisely we were invaded by 88 year 9 students from Rosebud who had spent the past three days in a bus - imagine their sheer relief of getting out!
To finish the day off we went to Anzac Hill and watched one of the best sunsets I have ever seen in my life. We were once again joined by our new 'friends' from Rosebud and it was as though I had teacher painted on my forehead as the teachers and I had several discussions. We decided to stay one more night to ready for the leg of the journey.
