Caught the train back from Katoomba into Sydney, it is only a 2 hour trip and the trains are comfortable enough, just enough time for some reading and listening to some music. I'm only here for a day or two before heading up the east coast. Just a quiet time. Checked into the WakeUp hostel just round the corner to the YHA I stayed in here before. I wanted to try another Sydney hostel before I went up norf! Its a large hostel and the kitchen and living areas are smaller than the YHA but the bar is bigger!
I am in a 6 stay room, they are a good bunch. One of them is only 18 and run out of money a while ago, yet he is always down in the bar ;) I met up with Jorg, the Dutch guy from the Blue Mountains and we had a drink or two before he had to return home.
On Friday, I bought my bus travel pass for $250. This gets me from Sydney to Cairns with as many stops as I like on the way. I just call up the day before I want to travel and hop on the bus
I went out to Bondi beach to take a look at all the beautiful people and see what all the hype was about. I must say, it was nice but Ken will be pleased to hear that it wasn't much better that Cornwall. But no pasties!
After lunch at a small cafe on the beach front I got myself the largest ice cream I have ever seen, lovely in this hot weather.
In the afternoon I went up the Sydney Skytower, a very high viewing platform that has 360 degree views of Sydney and its suburbs. The views were amazing but unfortunately both the bridge and the opera house were obscured by large skyscrapers. Lots of pictures later I found myself back at the hostel and in the bar! This is getting to be a habit ;)
I went to bead quite early and got woke up by the rest of them stumbling in after a boozy night, they didn't seem at all worried about waking me up, shouting and even playing music! I had to get up by 6am the next day so I got my revenge by some very loud packing :)
I'm off to Newcastle next stop, sounds funny doesn't it.
