Show trip route
Staying in a hotel overlooking Central Park, it made sense to start off there. First point of call was a nice stroll around the reservoir there, before reaching the other side and wondering down to the Guggenheim Museum. Sadly that was going through some renovations so we simply saw scaffolding and nothing more. Crossing back into the park, we ended up at the John Lennon memorial, then on past Trump Tower outside the park and down towards midtown and all the sights there
We walked down Broadway to Times Square. On the way we went past the Late show with David Letterman studio; with a quick detour to Radio City on the way. After some food, we spent the evening looking around Times Square, before braving the underground back to the hotel for the night.
The next day was spent much the same way - a walk through central park (a fantastic way to start any day) then on towards midtown and even more famous landmarks - Chrysler Building; Empire State Building; UN Building; Fifth Avenue; Grand Central Station; Madison Square Garden and Macy's; Flat Iron Building and probably more I've forgotten about. That evening we booked tickets to go watch the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium, so a quick trip on the Underground and we were there. That stadium is immense, and even with $20 tickets our view was fantastic - such a shock when you're used to British Premiership Football ticket prices!
Our final full day in NYC saw us forget the walking for a while, instead using the Underground to go further down Manhattan, so I could go and pay homage to my shrine - CBGB's, the home of US Punk. If only I had worn my Ramones top at the time
