From Charleston (and a brief trip to Myrtle Beach) drove down to Brunswick in Georgia. Not much to say about the place, spent my time there on a nice island off the coast catching up on some rest time. Stayed at a typical cheap Motel 6, all you need is a bed and shower, and thats all you get...

Next day drove down to Florida, with a quick trip to Saint Augustine before going down the A1A highway to Daytona Beach. SA was one of the first places to be inhabited permanently in the USA, and so lives off the tourism trade. There wasn't a lot to see and do for an inpatient arse like myself, so I cracked on down to Daytona Beach, following the coast road all the way down.

Not much to say about the place, its a normal average beach resort in Florida, famous for its motor sport history, when they used to race on the beach Daytona Beach

. These days you can park your car on the beach, which didn't overjoy me. Cant think of much worse than a dirty car spilling oil and crap all over a lovely beach, because someone is too lazy to walk 200 meters to a car park.

I didn't spend too much time here, instead I took a drive over to Blue Springs State Park. It's quite famous for its Manatees, however I visited out of season for them, so didn't see any. However I did enjoy a nice swim down a cool spring, and with my snorkel on managed to see a variety of wildlife - various fish and turtles, and even a small Gator up on the bank. I'll be honest, I didn't swim back past that. I also went on a boat tour on the main waterway into which the spring runs into, and saw a whole ton of Gators, some deers, loads of birds and lots of other boats. very enjoyable, and the people who run the tour were really knowledgeable and interesting to talk to. They have the best job in the world. Well worth the visit, and only cost a few bucks to get in.
