Leaving the glitz and glam of Vegas behind, we ventured on down to the Hoover Dam, straddling the Nevada/Arizona border. I'm no civil engineer, but even I have to admit its extremely impressive to say the least. It's extremely large for a start. Considering how old it is, I can't even imagine how much trouble it took to build it. They do run tours of the works, explaining what it does, why and how, but I was too cheap to be going on that, so I just stared at it for an hour.

Leaving Nevada behind, we followed the original Route 66 up to Williams, where we left to go up to the Grand Canyon. There isn't much to see to be honest, but the landscape seemed to change quick rapidly along the way. In the space of one afternoon, it went from Desert to scrub to Prairie to eventually Forest, when we finally made it to the Grand Canyon.

I'll be honest, I spent most of the trip thinking it would be a big hole and boring. I was very, very wrong. We arrived just before sunset, and with the light and the views, it was breath taking. I can understand why it is so very popular (not in November though, which is when this trip took place). We spent the night there, getting up early for the Sunrise views, which were even more breathtaking. Its so quiet. So stunning. I regret not allocating more time to stay. I would have liked to have gone down into the canyon itself, but that alone takes two days (at least), and with time being at a premium for this trip, we had to sadly crack on, up to Utah...
