From Lake Hazasu we drove over into California and then into Nevada, for the next stop in Las Vegas. On the Californian border, we had to go through a checkpoint for agriculture, which I thought was cool. Cool enough to mention here, anyway. That was the highlight of that drive. More desert, more traffic and more bad radio. But it's still immensely enjoyable, just watching it all go past.
Las Vegas. My first time there, it was a pretty good experience. Staying at Circus Circus, we spent a couple of days walking the length of the strip, taking full advantage of free (albeit watered down) drinks, gambling offers and just the tack and glam of the city itself. Its the only time I've left Vegas with more money in my pocket than when I arrived. In this case, a huge $6. Oh yes. Whilst in Vegas we did a few of the normal things to do - up the Stratosphere Tower, staying until dusk to see the difference once the lights start shining; the aquarium in Mandalay Bay; mooching down to the Fabulous Las Vegas sign (an arse to actually get across the road to), the tigers in the MGM Grand, watching people pay a fortune to go on a 3 minute trip on a Gondalah at the Venetian...
It was a great time. Even for people who don't gamble much, its still enjoyable, just letting it all settle in, a blur of lights and noise.
