With no information available apart from "see airport departures for details" we headed to the airport after a lovely few days in Bangkok, which was still in full on lock down mode with the Red Shirt protests. On the way to the airport we went through countless army and police roadblocks, even the Zoo had a heavy military presence.
So at the airport we waited 4 hours in a queue to find out we wouldn't be flying home that day. Indeed, the next available seat was three and a half weeks later.
Three and a half weeks later.
Down in the basement of the airport there was a makeshift refugee camp, made up of people who were waiting to get on the next flight possible. We later read in western media all these comments about people being "in hell" as they couldn't go home.
No one made them stay at the airport. There was nothing anyone could do. So why stress? A Volcano is out of the hands of the airline. No point in moaning.
Indeed what we did was get on the next bus back to Ko Tao - for three more weeks of holiday. Woo!!!
