Where I stayed

After a great time up in the Northwestern parts of Thailand, we had to jump on the sleeper train back to Bangkok, as we had to catch a flight.  Before doing so though, we had a great day in Bangkok, this time staying in Central Business District, opposite the MBK Mall and National Stadium.

Although not quite as scenic as other parts of the city, I did manage to pick up some lovely counterfeit clothes for cheap, which suits me fine.  We also had a quick scoot around Soi Cowboy, one of Bangkok's more "colourful" streets, lined with girly bars and fat western business man.

To get out of the afternoon heat, we also had a lovely afternoon stroll / nap / workout in Lumpini Park.  The highlight for me (other than showing my travel buddy my immense strength on the workout toys) was the large Watermonitors swimming freely in a urban park!

Sadly a few days after we left, the area became more famous for the violence that erupted in Bangkok in April 2010.  The Redshirt protests had been very peaceful until then - we had seen them in both Bangkok and Chiang Mai - however it all went very wrong when the Army and Police decided to get rid of them.  :-(
