You can stick your nine to five livin’...And your collar and your tie...And stick your moral standard...’Cause it’s all a dirty lie  (AC DC - Rock 'N Roll' Singer)

It's been over a year now since we got back from our Australia trip.  In that year, many things have happened.  Darren (who writes this) has been temping, most prominently at a national Charity in Kent, whilst long-time travel partner (and short lived Romantic partner) Helen has been working for the local council fixing potholes and allocating kids to schools, then spending her free time working for a parliamentary candidate.

The joys of being temps mean we can have a quick mooch somewhere in the World fairly easily.  In May I went over to Indonesia to see my sister get Married, then the week after I joined up with Helen for a mini roadtrip of the UK.  In September we celebrated Helen's birthday with the cheapest trip ever, to Slovakia and Poland.

Now though, we are hitting the road for a far more adventurous, random and knackering trip.  We are off to Indo-China, more commonly known as Laos, Cambodia and Thailand.

This is merely a pre-trip entry, letting people know what we are doing, what we've been doing, and what we are planning to do.

Still reading? Most be bored at work, eh?

Any new readers to my blog should note a few things:

1) It's piss poor.

2) I write it to amuse myself and let my Mum and Nan know what I'm doing.  It's not particularly informative. Or interesting.  Or worthy of a read.

3) If you are after beer, boobs and barbecues, you're reading the wrong guy.  Think more hiking, wildlife and old things.  Sorry to be boring, but there are plenty of party travelers blogs out there.

4) It's often written weeks after actually going somewhere, so don't check it daily.  Or at all.

5) Ultimately, I hope it will make you realise that if a dumb, fat and balding slacker can mooch off to far away places, so can you.  Just step out of that comfort zone.  You'll be glad you did.  Promise.

So whats the plan?

Well we land in Bangkok and we will probably have a few days in that area before mooching off north to Laos, the main part of our travel plans.  We plan to go from South to North (against the main flow of people) then hit North Thailand before heading east to Cambodia.  From there we fly down to the Islands of Thailand, to sit on a beach, dive and chill out whilst we consider what the hell to do with our lives.

In between, count on the following:

Darren will moan about other English backpackers.
Darren will be chased by a Monkey.
Darren will spend a long time describing dodgy toilets, much to Helen's delight.
Darren will rate a whole town on its quality of Milkshakes.

Helen will be looking for the cheapest deals possible, even if it is only a few pence cheaper.
Helen will, at many points along the way, decide to go it alone for a bit, as Darren is a total pain in the arse.
Helen will insist on finding a TV in the middle of knowhere that is showing the Formula 1.
Helen will have someone trying to buy her.

I've included a few maps in this entry.  The first shows the general area, so my Mum knows where I am.  She failed Geography.  The second shows the main places we want to go to, colour coded by country.   Pretty anal eh?

A) Take care, come home safe.

B) If a monkey chases you, he wants to play kiss chase - embrace this love....

C) Get a good price for Helen - I don't think you should accept any less than £3.50 (or the local equivalent).

Much love,

People - please see what I have to put up with whilst traveling? It's okay for Helen. All I do is eat Ice Cream and chase/get chased by Monkeys. She, on the other hand, makes me learn stuff. It's not fair.
