Hello there.

The opening entry to any sort of story is very much your shop window.  You need to entice them in, show off your wares and to show them what else there is to come.

In all honesty this isn't a really in depth, travelers blog.  Because I'm not an in depth traveler.  I'm just a fella who one day was bored with his life so decided to go and do something while he still can.  I don't class myself as a traveler.  What I'm doing / done is no different to what a thousand other people are doing at the same time.  I can't write for hours about culture, or scenery, or the people.  I don't go out and do mad nights on the piss.  I sort of drive around and just go where the road goes.  There isn't really a plan to it.

So what will this blog give you, the reader?  Well generally lots of ill thought out and inane writing (full of mistakes); poorly taken photos; and very few places off the beaten track.  In short, this blog is the type of thing you read when you've nothing else to read.

Well if you've got this far without being put off, I'll carry on.

So who are we, what are we doing, and why?  Well I'm Darren, as you can see from the name of my login.  The other person on this trip is Helen.  I suppose you could say we're partners.  I don't like to tell that to too many people though.  I could do better, you see.  We met many moons ago working at the same company, then ended up working very close to each other in the City of London a little while later. Oooh, that sounds glam I hear you say.  No, not really: it's long hours, hard work, the commute is horrible and the insurance industry doesn't get bonuses.  We're not bankers.   After a few years of this, I finally got bored and handed my notice in.  At the time, I didn't know what to do, but as my notice period was three months, I had a while to figure it all out.

And this is the result.  We ended up hopping on a plane to Australia, getting a camper van, and mooching around the place.  But this isn't a "9 months in Sydney, two weeks on the Great Barrier Reef, home again" trip.  We are going right across the country.  We land in Perth, end in Cairns.  Between the middle, we don't know.

I hope you like the blog.  It's cost me a fortune in Internet Cafe fees.
